Sukhailah’s Yogurt Chicken at News From Nowhere
Connections. You never know where you will make them, or what directions they might lead you in.
I first got to know Dani through Story Circle Network, as part of a group of women dedicated to writing our lifestories. When we were in Yemen she sent me a copy of Rana DiOrio’s What Does It Mean To Be Safe, which my children just loved, alhamdulillah and which introduced me to Little Pickle Press. After returning to the States, she sent us various care packages including knitting books and seeds for our garden. Dani has also been one of the women who has been consistently encouraging me to write my Yemeni Journey story down and get it published, and more than once it has been her prodding that has gotten me out of a writer’s slump, mash’Allaah. She has shared a lot of her knowledge of living simply with me as well, something which she and her husband actually do, not just talk about.
A couple of weeks ago we decided we would get together a little package to send to her, to show her our appreciation for her kindness. All of the children except Hudhaifah (my teenage boy) wrote her letters, and some of them drew her pictures as well. Sukhailah, of course, included a couple of our favorite chicken recipes, which Dani promised she would try. I was pleasantly surprised to see that not only did she try it, but she shared her experiences with it on her blog!
So, in the spirit of sharing our stories as we share our food, here is Sukhailah’s Yummy Yemeni Dinner!
