Wide Earth Smallholding

Wide Earth Smallholding

And Allaah has made for you the earth a wide expanse.(Qur'aan- 71:19)

I Can Write…

In her wonderful book, Rip the Page!: Adventures in Creative Writing Karen Benke asks, “What if you could write with anything today? What if you could wedge between the fingers of your left or right hand, a memory? Your infinite imagination? The power of creativity?”

I asked my children this question, and here’s a bit of what they came up with.

I can write with a whip of happiness.

I can write with a swirl of beautiful scent.

I can write with a wash of inspiration.

I can write with a tint of objection.

I can write with a flying of cool wind.

I can write with a storm of anger.

I. Can. Write.

-Nusaybah, age 11

I can write with sunflowers dancing in my eyes.

I can write with the ivory pages of life spread across the skies.

I can write with blushing crimson roses dancing in my head.

I can write with golden, glorious sunshine inspiring my thoughts.

I can write with the dew sprinkled gossamer of quiet voices long forgotten.

I can write with flowery memories of happiness gone by.

-Juwairiayah, age 13

I can write with sun glowing golden on my back.

I can write with daisies filled with joy in my hand.

I can write with bouncy balls bouncing in my head.

I can write with garden leaves all fresh and green.

I can write with clothes all over the floor.

I can write with kids sitting on my legs

I can write with rain falling from the sky.

I can write with yellow dandelions’ first morning bloom.

I can write with bright green tree below the sky.

I can write with a twinkling star bright in the sky.

Goodbye!

-Maryam, age 6
